PFIZER, UK — The British government has launched an investigation into how the health sector can use its influence to boost erectile dysfunction (ED) treatment in the UK.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has launched a probe into the supply chain of erectile dysfunction drugs like Viagra, Cialis, Levitra and Stendra in the UK.
The MHRA is investigating whether the UK government was informed of the potential dangers of these drugs while it is investigating the supply of these drugs on the internet.
The MHRA’s investigation has revealed that pharmacies and e-commerce providers are operating as though the government is not aware that these drugs can be purchased at the regulated medical outlets.
The MHRA has also launched a separate investigation into whether the MHRA is involved in a supply chain of ED drugs. It is the first time the UK has involved such a large group of men to have to deal with the health professionals and patients that the MHRA is involved in.
“There is currently an increased risk of dangerous and ineffective use of the drugs on the internet. In addition to the potential dangers of the unregulated supply chain of erectile dysfunction drugs on the internet, the MHRA has also observed a risk of serious and life-threatening events, particularly when the drugs are administered on a regular basis,” said the MHRA’s director of enforcement, Dr. H. R. Reidy. “This is a matter of public interest and a priority for the MHRA.”
The MHRA is seeking to ensure that those people who are using these drugs are aware of the dangers they pose and take appropriate steps to protect themselves.
“To that end, the MHRA is seeking to ensure that those who are using the drugs are aware of the risks and take appropriate steps to ensure they are not exposed to the dangers of the drugs,” said the MHRA.
Dr. Reidy said that it was the first time the MHRA has been involved in a public inquiry into the supply chain of ED drugs on the internet.
“The MHRA is currently pursuing the same investigation as in 2011. However, it has been the subject of further investigation in recent years. In particular, we are pursuing the investigation into the distribution and supply of ED drugs on the internet.”
“This is a matter of public interest, and a priority for the MHRA. However, we are seeking information about the availability of these medicines at regulated medical outlets,” said the MHRA.
Reidy said that the MHRA will continue to look into whether there are other ways to manage the risks of these drugs on the internet.
“This is an ongoing inquiry and we will continue to work with the MHRA to ensure that these medicines are appropriately used and effective and to take appropriate steps to safeguard themselves.”
He said that the MHRA is seeking advice and assistance to ensure that these drugs are safely and effectively used.
“As the MHRA continues to investigate and take the necessary steps to protect itself, it will continue to work with the MHRA and seek advice and support from the MHRA.”

Other important safety information
Patients who have a condition called “left ventricular outlet obstruction” from valvular problems or heart muscle enlargement may get side effects such as fainting or light-headedness. Because patients with recent heart attacks or stroke, heart pains (angina), heart failure, uncontrolled blood pressure or uncontrolled irregular heart beats, severe liver disease, and retinal eye problems have not been studied, Tadalafil (Cialis) is not recommended for these patients. There may be rare occurrences of priapism or painful, prolonged erections. This is a serious condition that requires immediate medical attention. Patients should seek prompt medical attention if their erection lasts longer than four hours.
After taking a single tablet, Tadalafil can remain in the body for up to two days. It can remain longer if patients have problems with their kidneys or liver, or they are taking certain other medications.
